as it happens...

As it happens is for highlighting significance found in the everyday. It is a quick way to document what happens, as it happens. A mix of daily life enjoyments, subtleties, challenges, milestones, and technicalities through pictures and in text.

  • snapdragons and petunias

Time for fall color! This is a busy season for Newton Landscape Group, as we try to get all our clients color in before thanksgiving.

  • city ride

todays ride was bit of a landscape architecture + public urban spaces design tour. We stopped by galvez plaza, Mississippi River park, water campus (w/ epic custom river inspired fountain designed by Reich landscape architects). Lots of hills today and rode down challenging bike path ramps. Stopped by vintage for a coffee/tea break.

  • the gals love to pal: pumpkin addition

POW, the weekly girls group, was hosted by the fabulous Madison for the mid October session. We painted pumpkins while we chatted about life and laughed till it hurt. Such inspiring women and I cannot wait to see how far we all go.

  • incoming plants

A project benefits when the landscape architects are also the landscape contractors. Since landscape contractors order the plants from wholesale growers, they know what is available and can tweak the design as needed, creating a more seamless experience. Today we got an order in out of Forest Hill, LA for a few jobs.

  • room in progress // vibes

I’ve been embracing living in a home in progress. It takes time to understand how you live in your house. This south facing window to the backyard has some fun views to the garden , pool, and tree canopy. Thinking this will be a house plant area. Currently have a desk nearby.

  • a weekly view

Also, sometimes on the other end. Design build landscape architecture, where focus on the details and spot elevations are crucial! #surveying

  • b&b tree delivery

Today we had D.D. Blanchard Magnolias, Nellie Stevens Hollies (full to the ground), and Ligustrum (FTG) delivered. Field grown trees are great for getting large trees that are already adapted to our soil system, that also cost less than container grown trees. We use a tractor to move them around.

When we aren't hanging out (in person or on the phone // laughing or serious girl talk) we are texting our wordle results daily. Summer has been a blast, but looking forward to our fall festivities.

  • the reality of having a home

no big deal, accidents happen. It was an easy fix, but nonetheless problems you have to deal with.

took a mini trip to NOLA to get an antique table Mary Claire saved off the side of the road for me. It didn’t fit in my truck… nonetheless we had a great catch up evening filled with delicious treats and she gave me a lesson on perfume scents. Mary Claire is an icon as always.

  • current food for thought

in audiobook form… key takeaways are don’t be entitled, do give af, just not about what doesn’t matter or is holding you back, high self-esteem + confidence should be earned, don’t gaf so it doesn’t matter if you fail or not.
