Small Backyard Planting Design
The 25’x60’ backyard is a small canvas, but has many different opportunities. The backyard is divided into 3 asymmetrical sections. The space closest to the home is hardscape framed with soft grasses. The zone in the center is filled with satsuma fruit trees, rosemary, native plantings, and sitting area. The paving design allows for a mix hardscape and vegetative groundcover which can tolerate foot traffic and may act as a gathering space. The space at the North side of the garden is a passive space that is submersive into vegetative room. The decking here is surronded by banana trees, blueberry bushes, gaura, and satsuma. The plant design is textural—featuring fine, medium, and coarse texture— edible, and ecological.
